Headline: Call for study to eradicate poverty.I am not gonna comment anything on this. Just wanna highlight something.
"Despite these, there is still a portion of the community who are less fortunate,
poor, victims of accidents and disasters who are in need of help to continue with their daily lives....."
Is it wrong to call people poor? (Yes I know I am very
pemajal).
Isn't less fortunate enough? Correct me if I am wrong, less fortunate is loosely translated as
orang kurang bernasib baik. Is that not enough to tell that somebody is poor i.e.
miskin? or must we really use the
'label', poor that has been socially constructed?

Poverty and Stigma
14:37
Hello people, I'm stress and my brain needs help.
I'm working on an essay about poverty and have decided to put forward an argument whether the term
'poor' is acceptable by the society or otherwise. BUT seriously I don't know what to write. hahaha. I thought it was a good idea to start talking about its' sigma. However, I don't even know what to argue. I mean, I know it's
probably wrong to label people as 'poor' in some ways but it's horrible that I can't explain why.
First, Is it wrong to call people poor? I think it is. Having said that, I still call people POOR. hahaha. (only in my essays lah)
but come to think of it, poor is
miskin. but people in Brunei especially if ada news about all those donations and stuff, they don't say,
"mendermalah kepada tabung orang miskin"it's either daif or orang susah or orang yang memerlukan. The question is, is it pasal miskin atu kasar or is it because miskin atu bukan bahasa standard? I find daif a bit kasar pulang.
I'm confused.
Has The Bruneian government ever uses the term 'the poor'? or has the 'poor people' always been referred to as 'the low income families'?
My brain is all messed up. Ordinary people have always belittle those who receive Income Support. Not by acting like one, but by labelling these people 'poor'. Hence, they feel alienated and helpless. So now, is it wrong to call people 'poor'?
sigh.
oh i feel like i want to talk to
pulus now. ;)
and I am counting the days. BRUNEI, I MISS YOU.
